2023 Mitsubishi Outlander vs. The Competition: Which SUV to Buy in St. Cloud, MN?

Don’t waste your hard-earned money on a new SUV that isn’t worth the money. Don Robinson Mitsubishi wants to help you avoid spending too much on an overpriced or under-quality vehicle. That’s why our trusted car dealership in St. Cloud is comparing the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander to its biggest competitors — so you can decide if our SUV is a smart buy for your family.

2023 Chevrolet Traverse vs. 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander: Better value?

The 2023 Outlander at Don Robinson Mitsubishi offers much more bang for your buck compared to the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse. First of all, the base-model Outlander ES has a starting MSRP that’s $6,500 cheaper than the cheapest 2023 Traverse model.[1]

Mitsubishi is also known for its generous warranties. The automaker’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last much longer than what Chevrolet offers. You’ll get 2 years/24,000 miles (bumper-to-bumper limited) and 5 years/40,000 miles (powertrain) longer coverage on a 2023 Outlander than on a 2023 Traverse.[2]

The 2023 Outlander even saves you money as you drive it. It averages a fuel economy rating of 27 mpg on combined city/highway driving, whereas the 2023 Traverse only averages 21 mpg combined on comparable routes in St. Cloud.[3]

2023 Chevrolet Traverse vs. 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander: Superior safety?

Both the Traverse and the Outlander are made for your family, but the Mitsubishi SUV has proven advantages in terms of safety.

The NHTSA rated the 2023 Traverse a grade of 4 out of 5 stars, noting its subpar side crash results in the rear-passenger areas and in the rollover test. The IIHS docked the 2023 Traverse for poor crash performance in the moderate overlap front and side tests using their updated testing methods. Its headlights also scored poorly.
In stark contrast, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the organization’s top honor. It received the top score in every category. As the 2023 model is an identical carryover, this score applies to the 2023 model year also.

Plus, every 2023 Outlander comes standard with Blind Spot Warning with Active Blind Spot Assist and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, which cost extra as options on the 2023 Traverse.

2023 Nissan Rogue vs. 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander: More modern design?

The Nissan Rogue entered its third generation in 2021, and already by 2023 the SUV is looking outdated. The Mitsubishi Outlander just received a total next-gen overhaul last year for the 2022 and has been crafted with an appearance that will be attractive for years to come.

Where does this difference come from? The 2023 Outlander implements the new Omotenashi design philosophy for the Mitsubishi brand. Translating to “Japanese hospitality,” Omotenashi inspired the brand to pay meticulous attention to detail and create thousands of thoughtful qualities inside and out. The result is that the Outlander looks far more premium and dynamic than the similarly priced Nissan Rogue.

2023 Nissan Rogue vs. 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander: More spacious?

The Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan Rogue are priced similarly, but you receive far more space in the larger Outlander SUV. While the Rogue only seats five people in two rows, the Outlander offers seating for seven people across three rows. This allows you to bring along your children’s friends or grandparents for rides. And, second-row passengers have more legroom in the Outlander than the Rogue.

If you don’t need those extra seats, you can fold them flat in the Outlander and have more room for large furniture, luggage, or home improvement items. The 2023 Outlander has 79.7 cubic feet of cargo space from its front seats to the rear hatch, which is almost 8 cubic feet more than in the Rogue.
