2018 Eclipse Cross vs. Escape | Don Robinson Mitsubishi | St. Cloud, MN
The 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and the 2018 Ford Escape are two of the most prominent options in the increasingly popular compact crossover segment. Here at Don Robinson Mitsubishi, we’ve put together a comparison to help you decide which one of these vehicles best fits your needs.
Performance and Efficiency
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has a standard 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo engine that can deliver 152 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Escape’s standard 2.5-liter iVCT inline-four engine puts out 168 horsepower, but only 170 lb-ft of torque. With those higher torque numbers, the Eclipse Cross is capable of zippier acceleration than the Escape.
The 2018 Eclipse Cross gets better fuel economy with its standard engine, achieving 26 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.1 While the Escape also gets 29 mpg on the highway, it can only manage 21 mpg in the city.
Safety and Convenience Features
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross offers a standard multi-view camera system that simplifies getting in and out of tight spots, a standard Head-Up Display that allows you to more easily keep your eyes on the road, and standard heated mirrors for cold days. These highly useful features aren’t offered standard on the Ford Escape — in fact, they aren’t offered at all.
Mitsubishi provides outstanding warranty coverage for the Eclipse Cross. The basic warranty is good for five years or 60,000 miles, the powertrain warranty lasts for 10 years or 100,000 miles, and the corrosion warranty covers seven years.2 The Ford Escape’s warranty coverage can’t compare: three years or 36,000 miles for the basic warranty, five years or 60,000 miles for the powertrain, and five years for corrosion.
With a quicker and more efficient engine, more standard safety and convenience features, and clearly superior warranty coverage, the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a better compact crossover option than the 2018 Ford Escape.
